Health Psychology
Many people enter therapy as a result of stress brought on by work, health concerns or relationship issues or early life trauma.
One of the largest bodies of research is the study of Health Psychology. Its work focuses on the ‘stress response’ and its impact on the body’s immune system. A number of illnesses can be triggered by a poor immune system.
Reducing your stress (and therefore strengthening your immune system) by having a deeper understanding, through therapy, of how to you process your thoughts and emotions, can lead to a significant impact on reducing incidents of poor health. This is a major preventative to future illness.
I am a trained Health Psychologist and have carried out research in the following areas:
IBS
Heart disease
Addiction
Cancer
Longevity
Exercise

Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga, to date, is one of the only types of yoga that has been shown to reduce the stress chemical Adrenomedullin, according to research findings. This chemical is produced during anxiety, stress and low mood and can over time, weaken the heart. A randomised control trial which investigated the biological benefits of Yin Yoga (Daukantaitė, Tellhed, Maddux, Svensson & Melander, 2018), concluded that only 5 weeks of yin yoga practice resulted in a reduction in Adrenomedullin and an improvement in psychological health.
Yin Yoga is a still, mindful stretch yoga carried out when the body is not warmed by exercise, hence its name (Yin-Cold). It focuses on the stretching of the tendons (not muscles), thus also resulting in more mobility then if you were to only stretch your muscles. The stillness of the yoga enables an active mindfulness as you focus on holding a slightly challenging but comfortable stretch.
All clients who present with anxiety or low mood are asked if they would like to take part in a 7 day, 15 minute Yin Yoga challenge to see for themselves the restorative power of this practice.
Most clients report a transformational effect on their anxiety and mood after only two weeks of daily practice.
I am a trained Yin Yoga instructor and can guide you through this simple but effective daily routine.
